Good day everyone,

Firstly, in terms of my trip to the USA in April, I won a major victory yesterday – I got a United States visa! The interview went really smoothly, and it’s another step towards fulfilling the dream.

Secondly, I’m going to post my personal lineup for the Coachella Music Festival this year, and I’d like to hear your feedback on whether you think I’m focusing on the right artists, or what your ideal lineup would be. Right now, individual stages and set-times haven’t been announced, just on which days the artists will be performing. So at the moment, my lineup is very much a wishlist, and I’m hoping that I’ll physically be able to see who I want to see live and in the flesh! Check it out under the Coachella page, or download the MS Excel document on my campaign site

Thirdly, although a victory was gained in the Cape Town US Consulate, I’m still struggling with an issue on my site with regard to posting articles under the Portfolio page. As stated in my first blog post, I have about three articles in the mix, and although my efforts have primarily been focused on my fundraising campaign, I would like to get them onto the site as soon as possible for your nourishment. On that topic, if you have any feedback on the design and layout of the site, I’d love to hear it. Comment, email, Twitter – you take your pick, readers.

Cheers,

Kurt

Good evening from the Nest,

The Coachella page is now updated with information on “The Eagle’s Flight to Coachella” fundraising campaign. Please have a look at what it’s about, share it with people/businesses that might be interested, and contribute (even if it’s a small amount). I know that it sounds cliche, but every little bit counts. That’s how crowdfunding works: together everyone achieves more.

I’m so nervous, yet also excited for the trip, and I’m spending most days in talks with potential sponsors. But it’ll all be worth the effort when I finally set foot on that Southern Californian soil, and report on an experience that I know a majority of South Africans have not been able to enjoy.

On a side note: I’ve been watching British comedian Ricky Gervais’ new mockumentary series ‘Derek”, and by the fourth episode, I noticed that they had already used two Radiohead songs in the show (‘Bones’ and ‘Kid A’, by the way). Well played Mr Gervais, well played…

Until next time,

Kurt

Welcome to The Hatchery, which is the blog element of the new Eagle’s Nest site. I hope to populate it with some interesting content and ideas, and to use it to keep a dialogue with you as the reader.

Today is a really exciting and nervewracking day. After nearly a month of mostly email correspondence and seemingly endless tinkering, this new Eagle’s Nest site is finally going live. My graphic and web designer, Elmarie Potgieter, has been an absolute angel, patiently listening to my requests and assisting me with understanding the backend of this newfangled domain. She has done a fantastic job overall, especially with the beautiful eagle’s head-and-nest logo which greets you from the top-left corner of each page. So I have to thank her for all the effort she has put in to get my small business off the ground, and for taking what I envisioned for this site, and making it a reality.

Elmarie is a kind, professional and helpful graphic and web designer - follow her on Twitter at @EllaElmarie or check out her website at www.webkzn.co.za

Although the new Eagle’s Nest has hatched, it is still in its infancy stages. In particular, I am working on finding a good WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) form of editor plugin for making posts, so don’t be surprised if the look of a page drastically changes overnight! In terms of portfolio, I am working on three of my own projects at the moment, whilst also focusing most of my efforts on engineering my fundraising campaign to Coachella Music Festival (which you can find under the Coachella menu button). But if you are looking for evidence of my past work, the old Eagle’s Nest site is still running, and can provide you with a snapshot of my style.

That’s all for today, I hope you enjoy the new Eagle’s Nest site!
